Q. How expensive is a funeral? What will it cost?
A. Costs vary a lot depending on decisions regarding caskets, transportation, cremation, cemeteries, and other factors. Hobbs personnel will sit with you and custom-tailor a service and funeral that meets your needs.
Q. How long will it take to plan a funeral?
A. About an hour. You can come to the funeral home or, if it’s better for you, a Hobbs funeral director will come to your home to help you with the planning.
Q. Is it possible to plan one’s own funeral in advance?
A. Yes. We call it “pre-arrangement.” Many people do this to avoid family members having to deal with the details during the very difficult time after a death occurs. Funeral directors at Hobbs will sit with you at anytime to explain your options, discuss costs, and make these arrangements for you in advance.
Q. Why do people prefer to remember loved ones the way they were, not in a casket?
A. Everyone wants to remember loved ones healthy and happy. A funeral that’s planned with sensitivity and care will celebrate the life of that person and help friends and relatives to remember them as they were in life.
Q. Why do some people eat after a funeral?
A. Often, when words are inadequate, people share their love with food or flowers. It’s become a tradition and it’s also a good way to share stories. It’s also a way for the family to say thank you to those who attended the funeral.
Q. How is it decided what the deceased is to wear?
A. Usually a loved one brings in clothing they feel is most appropriate.
Q. If cremation is chosen, do you have to buy a casket?
A. No, but most crematories do require some type of rigid container be purchased.
