Alan Finn, age 78, passed away on August 16, 2023, after a short illness.

He was born in Portland, Maine, the only child of Gordon and Marjorie Finn, on March 2, 1945.  He graduated from South Portland High School, Class of 1963 and the University of Southern Maine.  An accomplished accordionist in his younger years, he loved classical music and was often an audience member for the Kotzschmar organ concerts at Merrill Auditorium.  He was passionate about learning, reading, poetry, but especially teaching.  His teaching career began in a small private school in Bridgton; eventually he moved on to become a member of the faculty at the San Antonio Academy of Texas.  Following that, Alan spent several years in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia where he taught English.  Once stateside, he served as a substitute teacher for many years in several schools in the local area, most recently in the Scarborough school system.

Alan was a frequent patron of local bookstores, libraries, and coffee shops.  Even though he was a self-described loner, he loved to "people-watch" and would often make friends in the process.  He was a faithful correspondent with folks near and far, both via email and snail-mail. Loving to travel the world as well as the USA, his most recent jaunt took him to Guatemala, where he met for the first time an online pen-pal.

Predeceased by both of his parents, Alan is survived by several cousins in Maine, Massachusetts, Florida, and Texas.

A simple graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 30 at 10AM at Brooklawn Memorial Park (2002 Congress Street, Portland, ME).
