Allen V. Wright

April 3, 1949 ~ June 3, 2023

Old Orchard Beach - The Yankees lost one of their biggest fans last Saturday and the local pickleball courts will be a little less colorful with the passing of Allen Vincent Wright.  Born in Alameda, CA, Allen moved to the Bronx with his parents, Alvina and Daniel Wright, later graduating from Mount Vernon High School and SUNY Buffalo.  After college, Allen found a job as a camp counselor in Maine, fell in love with the state and his future wife and never left.

Allen began his 40 year career in public service at the Maine Youth Center before transferring to the Probation & Parole Division, eventually becoming a Portland area Regional Manager.

Allen earned several awards and commendations along the way, being recognized for involvement in progressive programming as well as dedication to justice for domestic violence survivors.  For many years Allen was a proud member of MSEA/SEIU and served as a union steward. Ever the sports fanatic, Allen passed this passion on to his kids and found great joy watching his children and their teammates compete.

Upon retirement, Allen devoted himself to pickleball, volunteered at St. Max's Church, and worked part time at Hannaford in Saco (often paying for those who found themselves a little short).

Allen leaves behind his wife, Patricia, of Old Orchard Beach; his son James; and his daughter Caitlin, her husband, Erik & grandson, Eddie, all of Brunswick.  Allen is survived by his 4 younger siblings & their spouses: Cheryl (Marty) Weidmann, Wayne (Laura) Wright, Danny (Dona) Wright, and Dana (John) Gillan.  He also leaves behind his in-laws: Kevin and France Riley, as well as numerous loved nieces, nephews and extended family, and a special friend, Greg Masalsky.

Visiting hours will be held from 4-6:00 pm on Thursday, June 8 at Hobbs Funeral Home, Rt. 1, Scarborough, ME.  A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 9th at  10:00 a.m. at St. Max's Church on Black Point Road in Scarborough.
