SCARBOROUGH – Ann I. Gammon, 75, of Scarborough, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024 in Gorham after a courageous battle with Alzheimers.

Ann was born in Portland on August 6, 1949.  She was the third of four children of Edmond and Phyllis (Brigham) Tanguay.  She grew up in Westbrook and South Portland and graduated from South Portland High School in 1967.  Upon graduation, she began her career as a secretary at what was then known as Union Mutual and now as UNUM.

On October 25, 1969, she married her husband Dana Gammon, whom she met during high school.  Together they made their home in South Portland and began raising a family.

When her twin daughters were born she stayed home to care for them until they entered school.  Subsequently, she went to work at Maine Medical Center in the admitting office until her son, Michael was born.  And again she stayed home to care for him until he started school.

Always eager to get back to work, she decided to apply for a position in the South Portland School Department as a secretary to the principal.  Her first job was at Dyer Elementary and later she was at Memorial.  She always had UNUM in the back of her mind as a favorite place to work, and decided to reapply.  She was accepted and given credit for previous years worked.  After fulfilling her career as administrative assistant to several executives in the company, she retired from the audit department in 2012.

Ann was an active member of the Mothers of Twins Club and served as a Camp Fire Girls leader.

She had a full life enjoying ceramics, oil painting, gardening, sewing, quilting, and camping  She liked gatherings and enjoyed helping her grandchildren decorate gingerbread houses at Christmas time. For many years she hosted family gatherings over the holidays.

Ann was predeceased by her parents, a brother Gerard Tanguay and a sister Maureen Tanguay.

She is survived by her husband, Dana Gammon of Scarborough; her daughters, Lara Maloney and fiancé Don Briggs of Old Orchard Beach; Lynn Roberge and her husband Tom of Gray; her son, Michael Gammon of Scarborough; her brother George Tanguay and his wife Carolina of Raymond; six grandchildren, Brianne Maloney, Jacob Maloney, Owen Maloney, Cameron Roberge, Logan Gammon and Sawyer Gammon; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Ann's family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the caring staff in the Oxford Unit at Gorham House for their dedicated care given to her in her time of need.  Well Done!

Visiting hours will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12 p.m., on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 U.S. Route 1, Scarborough.
