Ann Poteet was called home to her Lord on July 25, 2026. She was born in Richmond, VA on August 18, 1939 to Edward and Anna Townsend Rawlings, and spent her childhood in Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Culpeper, Virginia. She graduated from Culpeper High School in 1957, and was a 1961 graduate of the American University in Washington, D.C., where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega receiving her degree in Communications.

Ann married the love of her life, James Poteet, in 1991, after meeting him on a tennis court in New Smyrna Beach, FL. They were founders of The Racquet Tennis Center in New Smyrna Beach, FL.

Ann was passionate about her tennis and her bridge, and especially about the state of Maine. She and Jim split their retirement years between Port Orange, FL, and South Portland, ME. She always said, “I love Florida dearly, but my heart will always be in Maine.”

She and Jim spent an idyllic life of tennis, bridge gardening fishing, casinos, and traveling, and were avid fans of the New England Patriots, the Chicago Cubs, and the Boston Red Sox. She and Jim made Life Masters in Bridge in April 2007 after only two and a half years of play and enjoyed traveling all over the U.S. to play in duplicate tournaments. She taught herself the craft of cross stitch and enjoyed doing works for family and friends in her spare time.

She inherited her love of reading from her mother, who was a published author and a librarian, and she and Jim were never without books, often reading 2 to 3 books a week.

When asked what her talents in life were, she answered that she honestly enjoyed being a good and loyal friend, and worked hard to maintain her many friendships.

Ann was predeceased by her parents, her step-father, Edgar O. Willis, Jr., and her former husband, Bruce B. Daniels, of Cape Elizabeth, ME.

She is survived by her sister, Brokie (David) Partington of Greensboro, NC, her step-daughter, Debbie (John) Jones of Scarborough, ME, and her goddaughter, Tracey Townsend Long (Craig) of Davis, CA. Burial has taken place at Riverside Cemetery in Cape Elizabeth, ME.
