Anne Rhoda Wiesen Brown, 95, of Scarborough passed away on August 2, 2022. Born November 27, 1926, in Medford, New Jersey Anne was the daughter of the late Rev. George and Mrs. Mary (Hattman) Wiesen. She was wife of the late Dr. Richard C. Brown, the sister of the late Frances (Wiesen) Parsons, the late Henry Wiesen, and the late George Wiesen. She received her BA from the University of NH and her MA from Andover Newton Theological School. She began work as a religious education director in several churches for 11 years before joining the Red Cross in 1962 as a social work director in an Army hospital in Portsmouth Virginia and later at Walter Reed Hospital. She was stationed in Germany three separate times, spent several intervals in Vietnam, was in Nha Trang during the Tet Offensive, and was the recipient of a medal for civilian services in Vietnam in 1968. After the war she returned to the United States where she worked at Walter Reed, Andrews Base, Fort Dix and Wright Patterson as the Red Cross Field Director.

Subsequently, Anne returned overseas to Japan as Assistant Red Cross Administrator for the area. Later she worked in Korea and was there during the coup that resulted in the assassination of President Park. For recreation during her years with the Red Cross, she traveled; an African safari, trips to Russia, China, Singapore and many seldom traveled spots in the world. In addition to travel, she took flying lessons, and participated in horseback riding, hot air ballooning, and gliding. She retired from the Red Cross in 1988 and bought a home in Ocala, Fla. A lifetime dog lover, in 1992 she traveled to New Zealand to see sheep dogs in action. She was a Member of the American Association of University Women (Vice President 1991-1993), Board of Directors Tiger Bay Club, and Board of Directors Project Pup, 1993-1995.

In 1995, she married her husband whom she had known as a teenager while working at a camp in Ocean Park Maine. They resided in Florida and Ocean Park, Maine before moving to Piper Shores in Scarborough, Maine in 2002.

In addition to six nieces and nephews, she leaves two stepsons, Peter Brown of Charlestown, RI and Stephen Brown of Annapolis, MD as well as two step grandchildren.

A memorial gathering and a family service of remembrance and burial will be scheduled in Brentwood, NH at a later date.
