Arden Loretta Boulé Fifield Smith, 96

Arden Loretta Boulé Fifield Smith, of Sebago, was born in The Bronx, NY on March 28, 1930 to Roland Delphis and M. Loretta (McDonald) Boulé. She passed away peacefully in Florida on July 23, 2026.

Arden moved with her parents to Maine and spent her childhood in South Portland and Cape Elizabeth, graduating from CEHS in 1948. She married Warren H. Fifield in 1949. Their children were the light of her life. They are Bruce W. (Ann) Fifield, David R. (Linda) Fifield, Beth Arden (Michael) Schildroth, Helen L. Fifield, Allison G. Fifield Gaston, and Daniel H. Fifield (Tanja). Never to be forgotten is their daughter Diane Loretta, who passed away at only 17 hours old. Although Diane’s life on earth was brief, we find peace in believing that after 69 years of holding Diane in her heart, Arden is finally holding her daughter in her arms.

Arden was also predeceased by her parents; her husbands Warren H. Fifield and Edward A. Smith; Edward’s son, Richard Smith; her grandson, Daniel H. Fifield, Jr.; and son-in-law, Charles A. Gaston. Arden also spoke of her hope to reunite with her dear friends who passed before her.

Arden married Edward A. Smith in 1972. They enjoyed camping, starting out with a pop-up, graduating to a van, and then to trailer campers. They worked at the Fryeburg Fair for many years, registering farmers, their families, and their livestock as they entered the grounds.

Arden was employed doing phone survey work, collecting information on store shelves and in store back rooms, and going door-to-door for the United States Census Bureau. She had a gift for making people feel at ease. She enjoyed meeting people so much that she did not retire until she was 81 years old.

Arden loved to cook and her family was happy to make sure she didn’t have any leftovers when she made her apple pies, potatoes with bacon & scallions, baked beans, pancakes, and mac & cheese. She was always glad to share her recipes.

Arden enjoyed going to Maine Country Music Association gatherings, dancing, writing poems, coloring books, playing card games with her friends, and having her family with her as often as possible. She was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Portland and was involved in her local community, selling tickets at Sebago Days.

Arden’s wanderlust remained with her through her years. She went to senior luncheons and bus trips including to Indian Head in New Hampshire to see Santa, to the Ogunquit Playhouse, to Oxford Casino, and on overnight trips to Mohegan Sun & Foxwoods. She traveled by air to many vacations including Florida, California, Hawaii, and England, as well as many other places to visit family. She was fortunate to be a repeat guest at Disney World where she never missed an opportunity to ride It’s A Small World. Later in life, Arden enjoyed going on cruises.

Arden was lovingly known as Mom, Gram, Nana, and with the arrival of great-grandchildren, she became Nana-Gram. She leaves her children, 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Arden also loved and is fondly remembered by her former daughter-in-law, Kelli Fifield.

Family and friends are invited to gather on August 19th from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. for visitation, followed by a funeral service at 12 p.m., at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.  A reception will be held at the Hobbs Hospitality Center followed by a committal service at 2:30p.m.at Sebago Cemetery, 198 Hancock Pond Road, Sebago ME 04029.
