Obituary

SCARBOROUGH - Barbara J. Deering, 62, of Scarborough, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2022, while surrounded by her family. Barbara was born in Portland, Maine to Robert W. Sr. and Joan R. (Chase) Deering on April 15, 1960. She graduated from Scarborough High School in June, 1978. Barbara loved spending time with her family and was always organizing fun activities that everyone enjoyed, especially her nieces and nephews.

Barbara is predeceased by her father Robert Deering Sr. She is survived by her mother Joan Deering, her three brothers Robert Deering Jr. and his wife Sheri (NC), Gary Deering and his wife Emmy, Warren Deering and her three sisters Jacquelyn (Jackie) Wescott (MD), Janet Kramlich and Angela Tetreault and her husband Phil (NH) along with many nieces, great nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins.

Barbara took her older sister and loving aunt role seriously! She sought perfection in everything she did - from washing the windows until they were spotless to wrapping presents with the paper matching up just right. She always put everyone else first! And everything was done on her timing (in a minute), there was no hurrying perfection! She treated everyone with so much respect and love and had the 'patience of Job'. She often had people around her laughing, sometimes to tears, with her quick wit. Barbara's love for people was just as strong for nature. She was known for catching and putting flies back outside instead of killing them.

Barbara worked as a caretaker for many years. She first focused her attention on the young by working in several childcare facilities over the years before she went to work at Kaler-Vaill, a retirement home for women in Scarborough. She was filled with joy working with each one of those residents who treated her just like family.  She also worked at the Black Point Inn in Scarborough for 18 years.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, June 18, between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., followed by the funeral, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 U.S. Route 1, Scarborough. Burial will follow at the Black Point Cemetery.
