In Loving Memory of Barbara Marilyn Hanson
Barbara Marilyn Hanson, age 91, of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, passed away peacefully on June 2nd, 2026.
Barbara was an artistic soul. She found great joy in working with her hands, whether in the garden or in her needlepoint. Barbara enjoyed gardening on the patio a few days ago. The intricate needlepoint pieces that she generously gave to others will remain treasured heirlooms for generations. Whether it was through her stitching, gardening, or friendship, Barbara brought warmth and color to those who had the gift of knowing her.
Barbara’s life was defined by her love for her children. Though she faced the profound heartbreak of being predeceased by her beloved son, Michael, her resilience and grace never wavered. She is survived by her three children, Wanda Hanson, Debbie Carr (Andrew), and Chris Hanson (Rhonda); her daughter-in-law, Ena Hanson (wife of the late Michael Hanson); 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and her beloved sister Charlene Hodgkins, with whom she shared a uniquely close and treasured bond.
Above all, Barbara was known for her unwavering faith. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, her relationship with God was the anchor of her life. She spent many years sharing her faith with others and held strong hope for the future. She looked forward with absolute confidence to the fulfillment of the Bible's promise in Revelation 21:4—a time when tears, pain, and death will be no more, and when she would be reunited with her loved ones in a peaceful new world.
A memorial service is scheduled at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 100 Strout Street, South Portland, Maine, on June 27th at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Southern Maine/Andwell Hospice to honor the compassionate care they provided.
