Beatrice Chapman Litchfield passed away peacefully, in quiet grace, on April 28, 2026, on her 94th birthday - a poetic and fitting close to a long and vibrant life.

She was born April 28, 1932, in Rockland, Maine, to Della and Lowell Chapman, the youngest of five children. She was predeceased by her beloved siblings Margaret, Martha, Virginia, and her brother Paul, who lived to the remarkable age of 104.

Beatrice had a lifelong love of music and sang in her church choir, where she met her first husband, Paul Snow. Together they had two children, Janet and Andrea. She earned an associate degree in home economics, but her path led her into banking, where she began as a traveling teller at Maine National Bank. Through dedication, intelligence, and determination, she rose through the ranks to become Assistant Branch Manager in Scarborough.

She later married her second husband, Dan Litchfield, and warmly embraced an expanded family, including her stepchildren Raymond, Warren, Dan Jr., and Susan.

A woman of strength and independence, Beatrice continued to break barriers in her career, becoming Branch Manager and Assistant Vice President at Maine National Bank. She was also proud to be the first woman member of the Scarborough Kiwanis, a reflection of her leadership and pioneering spirit. She retired from banking at the age of 60.

Never one to remain idle, Beatrice went on to work at Kmart and the Golden Pheasant Gift Shop, where she found joy in connecting with others. In time, she chose to devote herself fully to her family. Her grandchildren - Donald Murphy Jr., Paul Murphy, and Melissa Karass - were truly the loves of her life, and she cherished every moment spent caring for them.

Beatrice found happiness in life’s simple and meaningful pleasures: cooking for those she loved, tending her gardens with a gifted green thumb, and surrounding herself with music. She was known for her wisdom, often reminding those around her that “the sun will always come up in the morning,” “when you see something that needs to be done, do it,” and “everything will come out in the wash.”

She is lovingly remembered by her children, stepchildren, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward her strength, warmth, and enduring spirit.

She will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved her.

We will find her again in the meadow and in the moonlight.
