Freedom, NEW HAMPSHIRE – Benjamin Joseph Larrabee, 28, of Freedom, New Hampshire, died Friday, January 27, 2023.
Benjamin was born in Portland, Maine, the son of Dana E. and Terri (Martel) Larrabee Sr. He was educated and a graduate of Scarborough High School, Class of 2013.
Benjamin enjoyed many outdoor activities, including hunting and fishing. He took many trips with his family and friends up north at Spider Lake, Bull dog camps and Tomhegan camps. He worked as a builder with his father at Larrabee Construction for many years, and eventually started his own construction business based in New Hampshire.
His biggest passion in life was horse pulling. Ben was on the Board of Directors for the Eastern Draft Horse Association. He started horse pulling at a very young age and shared this passion with his father, brother, and uncle. He won many trophies and was a large part of introducing the Dynamometer Horse Pull at Cumberland Fair, which he won with his father's horses, King and Barney in 2017. He was always very helpful to anybody that needed a hand. Ben was very well known on the fairgrounds. He was always up for a good time; you could find him there with his family friend, Darren Brown.
Ben enjoyed watching cowboy movies; his idol was John Wayne.
He is predeceased by his mother, Terri Larrabee, who died in 2014. He loved and missed his mother very much.
Ben left behind his most loyal companion, Meiko the dog.
He is survived by his father, Dana Larrabee Sr. and his wife Cathy of Hollis, ME; his brother, Dana Larrabee Jr. and his wife Samantha of Gorham, ME; his niece and nephew, Sadie and Cole Larrabee of Gorham, ME; his stepbrothers, David Vire and his wife Herlend of Tampa, FL, and Joshua Slater of Biddeford, ME; his uncle DEL Larrabee of Scarborough, ME; his aunt Debbie Charest and her husband Jim Charest of Windham, ME; his aunt Nancy Bennett and her companion Heather Donovan of Brunswick, ME; his very close friend Patty Cragin of Freedom, NH; many cousins and MULTIPLE friends.
He is predeceased by his grandparents, Roland and Shirley Martel, formerly of Rumford, ME; Donald and Beverly Larrabee Sr., formerly of Scarborough, ME.
Visiting hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 12-Noon, followed by a funeral service at 12-Noon, Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 U.S. Route One, Scarborough, Maine 04074. Interment will be in the Spring.
