Portland, ME – Carolyn Davis Foerster, age 90 of Portland, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, June 17th, at Maine Medical Center.

She was born in Portland on May 2, 1934, the daughter of Hartley A. and Mary (Townsend) Davis. She graduated from Deering High School in 1953 and Farmington State Teachers College in 1957 with a degree in Elementary Education.

Her first year of teaching was at the Lunt School, in Falmouth, ME, teaching first grade. She then went to California with a friend and taught first grade in Bakersfield, Whittier and Riverside. Through friends she met Don, the best thing that ever happened to her. They had 58 wonderful and treasured years together.

She and Don were married in Portland in 1960 and started their family in Riverside, CA. The family moved back to Portland in 1963. When her sons were a little older, she did substitute teaching in Portland for about 25 years, mostly at Lyseth School.

She was a lifelong member of the North Deering Congregational Church where she was very active on committees, luncheons, car washes, fairs, etc. They called her "trouble" because she was in charge of raffle sales and donation projects. At the church fair she made over 100 jars of jams, pickles and zucchini relish each year. She was known for her raspberry jam and zucchini relish.

She loved people and had a lot of great times throughout her life. Best memories as a child were summers at Little Sebago Lake and trips to Mars Hill, her mother's home town.

Her grandchildren were very precious to her and she enjoyed going to their athletic events and concerts. She was very proud of all they achieved in their lives.

Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving when the family was all together and sharing many happy memories.

She was pre-deceased by her parents, husband Don, sister Jackie Klaila and brother Sterling Davis. She is survived by her son Donald Jr. and his wife Sharon of Freeport, and her son Doug and his wife Darcy of Scarborough, and her cherished grandchildren Lucas and Kacey of Scarborough and Dylan of Freeport. She also leaves a brother, Robert Davis, and wife Judy of Gray, ME, and Venice, FL, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lastly, "for my non believing friends, I never colored my hair and was a true red head all my life."

Visiting hours will be at Hobbs Funeral Home in South Portland on Thursday, June 20th from 5pm-7pm. The funeral will be held at the North Deering Congregational Church on June 21st at 11am. Online condolences may be expressed at www.hobbsfuneralhome.com.
