Carolyn (Carol) Vieira Lanigan, 80 years old, passed away on Tuesday, June 25th at the Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough, ME following complications of Alzheimer's disease.

Carol was born in Brockton, MA on January 11th, 1944, to the late John and Ceceilia Vieira. She was the second born of six children and was predeceased by her beloved brother John. Carol was also predeceased by her brother-in-law Jack and niece Maureen. She was educated in the Easton school system and was proud to be an Oliver Ames Tiger where she was captain of the cheerleaders. She also took some college courses at Bridgewater State University.

Carol moved to Bellingham, MA with her late husband Tom Lanigan where they raised two wonderful kids. Bellingham is also where Carol opened her hairdressing salon with her business partner, Debbie. They had twenty-six hugely successful years running Designer Cuts II then sold the business in 2010 so Carol could move to Maine to be closer to her grandchildren.

Carol was an avid reader, music lover and sports enthusiast. She loved all New England teams, but the Patriots and Celtics were her favorite. In the 80's she had season tickets to the Patriots and was able to go to New Orleans to see them play in Super Bowl XX against the Chicago Bears. The game may not have ended the way she wanted, but it was an amazing experience. She also learned to play tennis and pickleball later in life, winning several competitive awards. She took her love of tennis on the road and went to New York to see the US Open. She loved music and loved to dance, leading countless conga lines throughout her life.

She was a theater enthusiast and attended theater productions at local theaters, the Providence Performing Arts Center, on and off Broadway. She also loved to travel and had a second job working at Foxy Travel as an escort. She always got a chuckle out of people's initial reaction to that job. She escorted many bus tours throughout New England and the east coast. She also went on an Alaskan cruise and traveled to Europe. Her favorite trip in 2005 was to Portugal visiting the place where her family originated. She kept a journal of that trip and said it was the trip of a lifetime.

Carol is survived by her daughter Tracy and her husband Joel, son David and his wife Inna and grandchildren Madelyn, Mason, Thomas, John and Matrona. Sisters Joan, Sheila and her husband Dennis, Paula and her husband Paul, Joyce and her husband Keith as well as her brother John's wife Barbara. Carol also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends including her special friend Ray.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, July 11th, 9-10:30 at Kane Funeral Home in S. Easton, MA with 11 AM mass at the Immaculate Conception Church in N. Easton and a burial at the Immacualte Conception cemetery. We will have a celebration of life at Giana's Restaurant in S. Easton, MA following the services.
