PORTLAND--Carolyn "CJ" Warren Mowers, 77, passed away Friday, March 7, 2025, in Portland, ME surrounded by family and loved ones after a brief illness. She was born April 15,1947 in Bangor, ME the daughter of the late Richard K. Warren and Joanne J. Van Namee. She graduated from Rogers Hall in Lowell, MA and attended The American School in Switzerland, later continuing her education at Mount Vernon College in Washington, DC.
In 1968, CJ welcomed her son with her former husband, the late Ronald Farley. In 1972, she moved to the Thousand Islands, NY where she sold real estate and embraced the River Life. In 1980 she married her second husband, the late Ronald J. Mowers, and together they welcomed their daughter in 1981 in Big Rapids, MI. In 1989, CJ returned to her beloved home state of Maine, to Cape Elizabeth. During the summer months, she cherished time spent at her camp on Phillips Lake in Dedham, ME where she was a member of the Lucerne Beach Club. She adored her grandchildren and loved having 'crazy hat nights', playing bingo and creating treasure hunts for them on the small islands around the lake. CJ loved going on kayak rides, spending time with her dear friend Kathy Constantine and tending to her breathtaking gardens and plants.
Since 1979, CJ worked for the Bangor Daily News, and in 2006, she joined the board of directors of the Bangor Publishing Co., the parent company of the BDN. At the time of her passing, she was serving as the chairman of the board.
CJ was predeceased by her longtime partner Frederick Emery, Jr. She is survived by her son, Scott W. Farley and her daughter, Jennifer E. Mowers, both of Cape Elizabeth, ME; her bonus daughter, Baye, and her husband, Michael Larsen, of Darien, CT; her grandchildren Brett (and his wife Kirstin), Benjamin, and Bryan Farley of Michigan, Audrina Williams of Cape Elizabeth, ME, Chase, Lily, and Eloise Larsen of CT; her great-grandchildren Beau and Brooks Farley of Michigan; her brother Richard J. Warren of Bangor; and her nieces and nephew Courtney Adragna, Anne Warren, and George Warren; CJ is also survived by her step-siblings John Thibodeau and his late wife, Margaret, Deborah and her husband, Jim Walker, Kathy Warren and David Warren and his wife Julie, along with countless friends who will miss her dearly.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date, with details to be shared once finalized.
