SCARBOROUGH – Catherine Anne (Hamel) Cote, 77, of Scarborough passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2022, at Springbrook Center in Westbrook. She was born in Portland on Mar. 19, 1945, to Leslie A. and Effie M. (Demars) Hamel.

Cathy was a member of the class of 1963 at Cathedral High School. On Oct. 1, 1966, she married her beloved husband of 56 years, Victor J. Cote Sr. She worked in numerous occupations in her early life, though her true joy came from being a mother, grandmother, wife, and friend. She could often be found at home in her gardens and watching the birds at the many feeders. She was an avid fan of Scrabble, always ready for the next challenger. She had a thirst for spiritual knowledge and studied numerous teachings across a wide spectrum of beliefs. She was a proud cheerleader and supporter at her grandchildren's school activities.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Victor Cote Sr. of Scarborough; children Michele Cote (Willy Quinn) of Scarborough, Melissa Doughty (Shawn Doughty) of Hollis, Victor Cote Jr. (Jessica Gellar-Cote) of Falmouth, and Christopher Cote (Heather Cote) of Hollis. She will also be missed by grandchildren Morgan, Allie, Amelia, and Audrey; all of whom she loved deeply.

Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 3 at Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 U.S. Route 1, Scarborough from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a brief prayer service. Hobbs will host a reception following the service from 1:30pm-3pm. A private interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland at a later time.
