Claire Louise Bowen

July 7, 1949 – April 18, 2026

Claire L. Bowen, a respected healthcare leader and longtime hospital administrator, passed away peacefully in Scarborough on April 18, 2026. Born in Lewiston, Maine on July 7, 1949, Claire dedicated her professional life to strengthening community healthcare systems and improving access to high-quality medical services at several hospitals throughout New England.

Over the course of her distinguished career, Claire served in senior, hospital leadership roles, including President and Chief Executive Officer, Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, and Assistant Administrator. She was widely known for her steady leadership, commitment to patient-centered care, and an unwavering dedication to guiding these organizations through times of growth and change.

Claire earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from St. Joseph’s College in Maine and a Master’s Degree in Hospital and Health Care Administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was a Fellow and Diplomate of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Claire's contributions extended beyond her professional duties; she was actively involved in numerous community and professional organizations. Her roles included serving on the boards of St. Joseph College, the New Hampshire Hospital Association, the Foundation for Healthy Communities, and the United Way, among others. She was also a committed member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Claire had a deep love for the State of Maine, especially coastal regions. She loved to spend any free time traveling with good friends to seaside locations and beyond, skiing, playing golf and pickleball, hiking, and snowshoeing.

Claire is survived by her son, Josh Bowen of Arvada, CO, her brothers, Gilles Fraser of New Gloucester, ME, and Richard Fraser of Inverness, FL, 3 nieces, one grandnephew and one grandniece. She was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Lucille Fraser.

The family extends its sincere thanks to the staff of Piper Shores, Kristen Beers and staff at Compassus Hospice, together with private caregivers, LaDonna Burley and Cheryl Poitras, for the outstanding care given during her illness. In accordance with Claire’s wishes, a private family ceremony will be held in her honor.
