Cosmo Damian Naglieri

1939 – 2025

OLD ORCHARD BEACH--Cosmo Damian Naglieri, 86, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2025, with his loving family by his side.  Born on February 4, 1939, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the beloved son of Antonio Naglieri and Anna Detrano.

A graduate of the New York School of Printing in 1958, Cosmo began his career as a printer's apprentice, a trade he worked in until 1971, when he joined the Long Island Rail Road as a conductor.  He spent the next two decades ensuring the safe travels of thousands of passengers, known for his reliability, warm demeanor, and dedication to his work.  At 55, he retired from the LIRR, but true to his nature, he wasn't one to stay idle for long.  At 65, he began working at Hannaford in Saco, ME, where he found joy in staying active and connecting with his community.

In 1964, he married the love of his life, Patricia (Gentile) Naglieri, and together they built a beautiful life.  They first lived in Bayside, NY, then in Elmont, NY, where they raised their family.  In 2000, they moved to Old Orchard Beach, Maine, embracing a new chapter surrounded by family and coastal beauty.

Cosmo was a lifelong Yankees fan who never missed a chance to cheer on his team.  He enjoyed playing and coaching sports, winning a championship with a LIRR softball team as well as dedicating several years to coaching his son's Little League baseball team.

An avid movie enthusiast, Cosmo had a Jeopardy-worthy memory for films, actors, dialogue, and classic movie scenes.  He loved telling jokes, solving brain teasers, and playing games, always up for a challenge that kept his mind sharp.

In retirement, Cosmo took up golf and quickly became addicted to the game.  He played as often as he could with his buddies, always striving to improve his game.  His dedication paid off—not once, but twice, as he impressively scored two hole-in-ones during his years on the course.

Above all else, Cosmo was a devoted family man.  He and Patricia shared over 60 wonderful years together, filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.  He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Naglieri, and their children: Lisa and her husband Sean (Neelon), Laura and her fiancé Robert Conway, and Thomas and his wife Marie (Roth).

He took immense pride in his children and grandchildren's athleticism and accomplishments, and there was nothing he loved more than being their biggest fan.  Whether it was lacrosse, football, soccer, basketball, or dance, he was there, cheering them on with pride and enthusiasm.  All of his family have gleeful memories of days spent riding rollercoasters and playing skee ball with him at nearby amusement parks, whether it be Coney Island, Palace Playland, Adventureland, Great Adventure or Funtown.  He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Christian Neelon and his wife Julia (Hergenroeder), Maegan Neelon, and Maximus, Celia, and Sophie Naglieri, who brought him endless joy.

Cosmo is also survived by his dear brother, Pasquale Naglieri, and his dear sister, Antoinette Naglieri, her husband Roger and many beloved nieces and nephews.  Cosmo was predeceased by his siblings Frank, Anne, Joe, Mike and Carmela.

Cosmo will be remembered for his humor, quick wit, and unwavering devotion to family and God.  His presence lit up every room, and his love and wisdom will remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 US Route 1, Scarborough, ME.

On Saturday, March 8, at 11 a.m. a Funeral Mass will be held at St. Margaret's Church, 6 Saco Ave., Old Orchard Beach, ME with a reception to follow at noon at Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 US Route 1, Scarborough, ME.
