David J.
Cargen
Aug 21, 1970 — Feb 12, 2023
Scarborough
David J. Cargen, 52, of Scarborough, Maine passed away unexpectedly at his home Sunday morning. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and friend.
He was born on August 21, 1970 in Syracuse, NY. His earliest memory was getting on skates at the age of 3 and went on to play center for the local travel hockey team, which included going throughout Canada. He started riding his first dirt bike at the young age of 5 and passed that passion on to his sons where they enjoyed riding through the trails of Limington and Standish.
Dave settled in Maine where he met his wife of 21 years, and he quickly became a beloved member of the entire family. For the last 18 years, together they managed a successful property management business, traveling weekly to Oak Ridge, New Jersey. His dedication and reliability earned him well renowned respect in the community.
He loved life with a sparkle in his eye and had many interests and hobbies. Golfing was at the top of that list. In recent years he began teaching his wife and sometimes it was hard to stay quiet on the green. He enjoyed bowling where he strived for perfect game. There were annual family camping trips and hikes to find the ideal waterfall. He loved to travel, whether it be sipping wine through the vineyards of Napa, walking the streets of San Francisco, Las Vegas or yearly trips to see the beautiful sunsets of the Caribbean. Just last year, a highlight was saving baby sea turtles in Mexico. The local Mobil station knew him by name, getting there on time to play his daily lottery numbers. He looked forward to traveling to area casinos with his wife, where his passion for numbers continued, sitting at the roulette wheel.
Dave had a way of making others feel safe and comfortable. Through his easy-going demeanor and
animated conversations, he was someone others gravitated towards. His passion and hard work showed through his family, friends and business. Dave was dedicated, compassionate and thrived to bring laughter and smiles to those who surrounded him. His presence will be forever missed and cherished by those who were fortunate to be touched by his life.
Dave is survived by his loving wife Chelsey, their sons Matthew and Zachary and daughter Audrey. He also has two daughters Angela Cargen and companion Will Shatrau of Oswego, NY; Elizabeth Bouvia and granddaughter Kalista of Baldwinsville, NY and his father Michael Cargen and companion Sue Amidon of Syracuse, NY. He is predeceased by his mother Carol Wasnick of Syracuse, NY.
There will be a private celebration of life held by the family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Colon Cancer Coalition, in honor of his mother, Carol Wasnick.
