It is with both sadness and fond smiles that we announce the passing of our beloved David Thomas Paul. David left us suddenly on July 4, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Portland, Maine at the age of 76.

Dave was born December 31, 1949, in Manchester, New Hampshire, the son of Robert and Arlene Paul. Dave graduated Bishop Bradley High School and the University of Maine where he was a standout receiver on the Black Bears football team.

Dave was employed by Ryder Systems, Inc. as a Customer Development Manager for over 30 years, but he ended his work career pursuing one of his true passions as a Fishing and Shark Charter Captain.

Dave treasured spending time with his family; sharing a marriage of 49 years and three sons with his wife, Linda. Whether it be at the backyard pool, the many ballparks and courts, Higgins Beach, winters in Florida with his wife Linda, playing something competitive, or tossing the football with his grandsons, Dave was a family first father. He will be remembered for his kind heart and passion for life, greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. A neighborhood Santa, a rock and mentor to many, and a friend to many more.

Dave engaged life to its fullest, partaking in a plethora of hobbies, always with the pursuit of excellence. No matter the season Dave could be found outdoors. As an avid hunter; from Maine moose hunts to Canadian goose hunts, as an experienced angler; from pontoon plane rides into Rainbow Lake to fighting Makos 25 miles offshore, as a golf enthusiast with a hole-in-one and a club championship his name. As a speed demon on the ski mountain who checked all the northeast mountains off the list. As a dedicated dog trainer, always willing to share his knowledge. He loved to cook and created feasts to share with his family and friends. No one turned down an invitation to Dave’s cooking.

Dave was also a passionate advocate for his community and improving the lives of others. Coaching more than 30 youth sports teams, Dave used his coaching skills and philosophy to help a whole generation of kids navigate life. He was a core part of the group that started Scarborough football, helped get approval and build the Saint Maximillian Little league field, served as Little League president, a large Ducks Unlimited donor and fundraiser, Operation Game Thief advocate and fundraiser along with many other organizations and causes. If there was a need, Dave was willing to step in and help. He had a keen way of getting things organized, motivating others, and making things happen.

Dad is survived by his beloved wife, Linda (Bigwood) Paul and his loving family, Ryan and Stephanie Paul, Robert and Sarah Paul and Kevin and Ashley Paul and his amazing grandchildren, Owen, Connor, Graham and Hadley. He is also survived by his siblings and spouses Diane and Larry Steele, Michael and Kathy Paul, Ronnie and Patricia Paul and Andy and Alaina Paul. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and cousins and many special friends. Dave will be dearly missed. He is forever in our hearts. Linda and his family and friends are heartbroken.
