Obituary

Dennis Clark Farrington, 77, of South Portland went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 13 th , 2022 after a brief illness.

He was born on October 27, 1945 in Portland.  He was the son of Frederick and Louise (Pettegrow) Farrington.  He graduated from South Portland High School in 1964 and continued his education at the East Coast Aeronautical Institute.

Dennis was a proud US Army Veteran, serving a tour of duty in Viet Nam from 1967 - 1968 as an Aviation Crew Chief.  Using his GI Bill, he also earned degrees from Andover College and Husson College.

He married his soulmate, Donna Smith Farrington on May 13 th 1967 right before leaving for Viet Nam.  Dennis' parents actually met Donna first at a mutual friend's home and thought she would be a great match for their son. They gave Dennis her phone number and the rest was history.  They celebrated their 55 th wedding anniversary this year.

Dennis first met his daughter Sherry when he returned from Viet Nam.  She was 3 months old.  Sherry's school friends all thought Dennis was the greatest as he would taxi them all around town wherever they wanted to go.  He loved doting on Sherry and her pals.

Dennis was blessed with a wonderful son-in-law, Ivan Ramsdell Jr.  He would tell people that he won the lottery when he got Ivan.

Dennis' grandson, Damian Ramsdell was the absolute joy of his life.  When Damian was born, everyone said that Dennis' wallet flew open.  If you ever had a conversation with Dennis, you very likely heard all about Damian and what a proud "Gramps" Dennis was.

Dennis called South Portland his town and was known as the "go to guy" for always helping friends, family, and neighbors.  He adored his family, and his hobbies included:  grilling, golfing, listening to the oldies, volunteering, studying Civil War facts, and attending all his grandson's school, personal, and sporting events.

Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by:  Fairchild, The Danforth Company, The Reece Corporation, and The Dingley Press.  Even after retirement, Dennis worked various part-time jobs to stay active and to be able to meet and interact with people.  Dennis was a social butterfly.

As retirees, Dennis and Donna went to The Villages in Florida for 14 years in a row.  They made many great friends in The Villages.  Dennis loved driving his golf cart all around town, going to the pool, and dancing to music at one of the squares.

Dennis was predeceased by his parents, and his brother, Kenneth Farrington.  He is survived by his loving wife, Donna, his daughter Sherry and her husband, Ivan Ramsdell Jr., his grandson Damian Ramsdell, his nephew Kenneth Farrington Jr., his sister-in-law Gloria Smith, several close cousins, and many wonderful friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dennis' memory to either:
