Donna Sue Smith

Portland – Donna S. Smith, 87, of South Portland, died Thursday, December 18, 2025.

Donna was born in Albany, New York, the daughter of Donald and Francelia "Mires" Holmes.

Donna went on to get her degree in nursing. She began her nursing career in New York and finished at Brentwood Manor as a nurse.

She always loved to garden, going to the beach and always enjoyed having a cat in the house. She also was an avid reader.

She is predeceased by her husband, William F. Smith, and grandchildren Richard Smith Jr. and Pamela Oakes.

Survivors include her children David W. Smith (Robin), William D. Smith (Brenda L.), and Richard A. Smith, sister Cheryl Machold, brother John Holmes (Phyllis) and grandchild Elizabeth Luxton, Nicholas A. Smith, and Cathy and Eddie Oakes and a nephew John D. Holmes Jr.

Visiting hours will be held at Hobbs Funeral Home, located at 230 Cottage Road, South Portland, Maine 04106, on Monday, January 5 from 4 to 7 PM. Funeral Services will be 10 AM Tuesday, January 6th at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Forest City Cemetery.
