Doris E.
Barker
Nov 21, 1936 — Jul 4, 2023
Doris E. (Davis) Barker
In the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 4, 2023, Doris E. (Davis) Barker, 86, passed away with her daughters by her side.
Doris was born November 21,1936 in Portland, the daughter of Millard and Ruth Emery.
In February of 1953 Doris married Robert Davis Sr. and together they had 4 children which they raised in the same South Portland home Doris had grown up in. They were married for 40 years before Bob's passing in October of 1993.
Later in her life she married Raymond Barker. They spent several years traveling and spending their winters in Florida before Ray passed away.
Doris was active in the PTA, was a Blue Bird leader and was always at sporting or school events for her children. She was a champion cribbage player, an unbeatable Scrabble player and she did enjoy a trip to a casino now and then. Doris had a wicked sense of humor, which she passed onto her children, a love of music, she was a great pianist, and had a love for cats. Doris was rarely without a cat or two in her life and in her final days her beloved "Wheezy" was beside her on the bed to the end.
Doris is survived by her 2 sons, Robert Davis Jr. (Candy) and Steven Davis (Livia), her 2 daughters, Lynne Nadeau and Julie Farris (Steven); 7 grandchildren, Sarah Connors, Ryan Gadbois, Alyssa Wydysh (Ned), Evan Twomey (Chloe), Dana Davis, Jacob Davis and Emily Davis; 3 great-grandchildren, Julia Connors, Janelle Connors and Theo Wydysh.
She was predeceased by her grandson Patrick Dolan Davis in 1997.
Doris was also predeceased by her son-in-law Russell Nadeau, with whom she had a great friendship, her sister Patricia Smith and brothers Hazen and Russell Emery.
The family would like to thank the "Ladies" at Ridgeland who extended great kindness and support to us as we went through Mom's last weeks. Their cards and kind words were extremely appreciated.
Per Mom's request there will be no services and burial will be private.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to: Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, 217 Landing Rd., Westbrook, Maine 04092
