Doris Ruth
Fee
Nov 3, 1931 — Mar 6, 2024
Doris R. "Dottie" Fee, 92
SOUTH PORTLAND - Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 6th, 2024, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House is Scarborough. Surrounded by family, she succumbed to complications caused by a stroke. Born on November 3, 1931, in Lewiston, she was the only child of Joseph and Maria Fischer.
Doris graduated from South Portland High School and went to work doing several different jobs including working for General Motors in Detroit. She returned to South Portland and shortly after at a dance met her future husband Thomas M. Fee, a Coastguardsman stationed in South Portland. They married in 1952 and raised five children in South Portland and Cape Elizabeth. Together Tom and Dottie started a marketing and real estate company that lasted 45 years.
She had a great love of family and was blessed to have had five children, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren who affectionately called her "Muffy". The two family Shih Tzus "Zoey", and "Atticus" loved going to visit Muffy. She enjoyed her morning crossword puzzles and feeding the birds. Going out to lunch or dinner with her was always fun. In younger years she would knit mittens for her kids and grandkids and passed the skill down to her daughters. Baking tasty cookies, our favorite hermits, and passing down the recipes made her very happy. During her life she had a stubborn will to live and was able to overcome several health-related issues, including a kidney transplant in 2006.
Doris was predeceased by her husband Thomas M. Fee and a daughter Sherry Fee Swinburne.
She is survived by her children James Fee and wife Shay of Scarborough, Kathy Jesseman and husband Eric of Scarborough, Tracey Hall and Andy Schwartz of Windham, and Thomas Fee and wife Allison of Merrimack, New Hampshire. Grandchildren Honey, Katie, Molly, Erica, Ashley, Nathan, Liam, Dylan. Great Grand Children Josh, Sophie, Landon, Stevie, and Sylas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 13th, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring and compassionate staff at New England Rehab and Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.
