Cape Elizabeth

Obituary

Dorothy Mary (Jordan) Huff, 91 of Cape Elizabeth, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 20, 2023, two months to the day after losing her beloved husband, Robert Huff.

Dorothy (Dottie) was born in Portland on January 9, 1932 to the late Philip S. Jordan and Anastacia Kazlawskus Cassell. Dottie grew up in Portland with her brother Edward F. Jordan and spent her summers on Martha's Vineyard, MA.

Dottie graduated from Portland High School in 1950 and Gorham State Teacher's College in 1954.  While working at Shaw's Supermarket, she met the love of her life, Robert Huff.  They married June 30, 1956 and began their 67 years together building their life as husband and wife.

Dottie was a first grade teacher in Portland until she and Bob moved from South Portland to Andover, MA where their first child, Robert was born. Dottie became a homemaker and they welcomed their second child, Dianne. After moving back to Maine, they settled in Cape Elizabeth where they found their forever home and welcomed two more daughters, Sandra and Lisa.

She loved taking care of her family, cooking, sewing, gardening, and being a part of "The Mothers Club" with her friends Carmela Morrison, Joan Amergian, Laura Barrett, and Delores Bartlett.  Every fall, Dottie would spend a week canning tomatoes in order to make her amazing spaghetti and lasagna sauce.

Dottie loved going to Crescent Beach with the kids in the summer.  Every August, the family would go to Martha's Vineyard to visit her brother Ed and sister-in-law Collette where they would spend time at the beach looking for quahogs and enjoying dinners at the family restaurant in Oak Bluffs, Giordano's.

When the children were older, Dottie went back to work at Hannaford in South Portland where she was a customer service representative.  She made many friends among her coworkers and customers.  She retired at 60 and was able to enjoy her family.

A beautiful event that Bob and Dottie were able to attend last fall, was the wedding of their granddaughter, Chelsea.  They were honored for being married 66 years and danced to their love song "Unforgettable" by Nat King Cole.

Dottie was a loving and fiercely devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  Taking care of her family was her greatest joy.

Dottie is pre-deceased by her beloved husband Bob, brother, Edward Jordan, sister-in-law, Collette Jordan, and nephews, Philip and Steven Jordan.

Dottie is survived by her son Robert Huff (Sharon) of Standish, daughters Dianne (Carl) Stephenson of Cape Elizabeth, Sandra Hopkins of Saco, Lisa Prentiss (Jared) of Falmouth, and her grandchildren, Christopher Huff, Chelsea Snider, Brian Stephenson, Kayla Hopkins, Rachel Hopkins, and Ruby Prentiss.  She is also survived by her nieces, Joleen Rose, Kimberly Reeves, and nephew, Edward Jordan.

A private graveside service will be held Friday, October 27, 2023.  In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Animal Refuge League.

The family would like to thank the amazing emergency staff at Maine Medical Center for their care and compassion of Dottie. While we didn't spend much time at Gosnell House in Scarborough, the nurses and staff provided comfort for Dottie and her family.
