SCARBOROUGH - Earl G. Sherwood passed away peacefully on June 6, 2022 at the age of 89; son of Clive and Ruth Sherwood. He died the way he lived, laughing and joking around then drifted off to sleep.

He is survived by his sister, Sally Stowell, his children, Betsy Darling (husband Orville Darling) of Harpswell, Maine, Tina Sherwood of Milford, Massachusetts and Dolores Farris (husband Martin Farris) of Chugiak, Alaska and grandchildren, Amanda Darling, Jeremy Darling and Andrew Young. His son, Charlie Sherwood predeceased him.

Earl was an active member of the Democratic Party serving as the Penobscot County chair. He was a believer in fair wages and became an active member of the Teamsters. He acted as a business agent in representing members in union negotiations regarding employment issues. He was an entrepreneur always striving for more. Growing up, his primary occupation was a truck driver, but he also ran an oil delivery business on the side and bought rental properties. When he moved to Bangor in 1977, he purchased a General Store. Then he became a tax assessor for the City of Brewer where he worked until 2012 when he retired. He was a character, always flirting and joking around. He would talk politics with anyone and if you disagreed, well you had to be a republican! He cared and loved everyone. He will be missed.

Visiting hours will be 4-7 p.m., Monday, June 13th at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland, Maine. His service will be held on Tuesday, June 14th at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial with military honors at 2 p.m., at Mount Hope Cemetery, 1048 State Street, Bangor, Maine.
