Edward Eric Hinds, known to all as Rick, left this world on August 29, 2026. As a resident of The Landing at Saco Bay, he had battled dementia for a number of years. He’s now whole and has entered God’s eternal rest.

Rick was born in Portland, Maine to Edward C. and Elizabeth A. (Lailer) Hinds; the first of three children. He grew up in Cape Elizabeth and graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School. He went on to earn a B.A. in Business from Gardner Webb University in North Carolina and would later attain his teaching certificate.

From a dedicated paper boy to a produce manager at Shaw’s, Rick’s career involved Portland Glass, “shop” teacher at Gorham Jr. High and Bonney Eagle Middle School; from where he would retire.

Rick was passionate about Civil War reenactments and was an active member of the 5th Maine Regiment. He was a master craftsman with wood; he built furniture, canoes as well as his own house. He served as the coach for girl’s field hockey and softball at both Gorham Jr High and Bonney Eagle Middle School. He was an avid runner at heart and competed in numerous races; including the Boston Marathon.

Rick is survived by his brother, David Hinds; sister, Ann Mcgillan; four nieces and two nephews.

Rick will be forever in our hearts. Life has to end. Love doesn’t.
