Obituary

Eleanor Beal Hamilton, 95, of Florida, Maine and most recently, Summerville SC, passed away unexpectedly on March 9, 2026 after a brief illness in Summerville, SC.

Eleanor (Ellie) was born in Strong, Maine to Alice and George Beal. Ellie attended schools in Farmington, Maine until she went on to Maine General Nursing School in Portland, Maine where she graduated in 1953 as a registered nurse. She married Perley Hamilton April 19, 1954 in Portland, Maine. Ellie worked at Maine General hospital (now Maine Medical Center) for several years until she started a family and then returned to nursing as the Director of Nurses at Seaside Nursing Home for 20 plus years until her retirement.

Ellie’s truest passion in life (other than spending time with her family) was helping others. She was loving, kind, compassionate and always supportive of all those fortunate enough to have known her or be around her. Ellie was also an avid walker and could be seen walking in her neighborhood daily well into her 80’s. And she rarely missed watching a Patriots game on TV and in person in her younger years.

Ellie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Perley, in 2018 after 64 years of marriage. Ellie was a twin to her sister Elaine Wiley who passed away in July 2022.

Ellie is survived by three children, Scott Hamilton and his wife Alice of Falmouth, Maine; David Hamilton and his wife Shelby of Gorham, Maine; and daughter Sara Nichols and her husband Raymond of Summerville, SC. Ellie is also survived by three granddaughters; Megan Fitton, Kristen Hamilton and Erica Harrelson and five great grandchildren, George, Elizabeth, Jack, Seth and Sean. Ellie’s greatest joy was being surrounded by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a tremendous example of a life well lived!

There will be a private family service and celebration of her life this summer in Maine.
