Fort Myers, FL - Elizabeth (Liz) Tompkins McGuire of Ft Myers, FL passed away quickly and peacefully surrounded by her family on February 20, 2023.

Liz was born in Cambridge, MA on March 31, 1937 to John and Elizabeth Tompkins of Guilford VT.

After graduating from Simmons College in 1959, she married her husband Jim, an army officer in 1961. Together they lived all over the US and abroad including Berlin, Germany; Augusta, GA; and Washington, DC before settling in Monmouth County, NJ where she became a loving mother to her two daughters.

Later in life, she received a Master's degree in substance abuse counseling and began a fulfilling career helping people with substance use disorder.

Elizabeth retired to Ft Myers, FL where she enjoyed a full and active life surrounded by friends. She loved knitting, traveling and being active in the Myerlee community where she lived.

Elizabeth is predeceased by her parents and her brother John Butler Tompkins of Ft Myers, FL.

She is survived by her husband, James J. McGuire, Jr, her daughter Anne McGuire and son-in-law David Hoidal and her daughter Mary McGuire. She is also survived by her two beloved grand dogs, Ella and Beto.

Liz was beloved by her family, friends and anyone who knew her. She will be sorely missed.
