Francis M. Brown

1925 – 2025

PORTLAND — Francis M. Brown, born on April 10, 1925, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, at the remarkable age of 99.

A graduate of Westbrook High School, Francis went on to build a successful career with New England Telephone, where he worked as a project engineer for 32 years.  After retiring, he pursued his passion for real estate investment, demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to hard work.

On March 17, 1946, Francis married the love of his life, Phyllis Maxwell.  They shared a beautiful partnership until her passing in September2008.  Together, they built a loving family that brought him immense pride and joy.

Francis is survived by his three children: William Brown of Florida, Leeman Brown of California, and Sheran Andrews of Cumberland, Maine.  He also leaves behind five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory and carry forward his legacy.

An avid outdoorsman, Francis found joy in activities such as hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, golfing, and tending to his yard.  His love for nature and the outdoors was a defining part of his life and brought him countless moments of happiness.

Francis was also a veteran of WW 2.   He served in the United States Navy from 1943-1946 on the air craft carrier U SWASP in the Pacific.

Francis will be deeply missed by all who knew him.  His warmth, dedication to family, and zest for life leave an enduring mark on those fortunate enough to have shared in his journey.  May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him.

Visiting hours will be from 1 - 3 p.m., Sunday, January 19, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland.  There will be a graveside service in the spring.
