SCARBOROUGH – Franklin J. Looke, 89, died on October 25, 2022, after a short hospital stay.  His family is very grateful for the wonderful care he was given at Maine Medical Center.

Frank was born on December 20, 1932, in Farmingdale, Maine, to Charles and Angie (Lancaster) Looke.  His childhood was spent in Farmingdale and Gardiner.  He graduated from Gardiner High School in 1950 where he was the president of the student senate and played several sports.

Frank was a member of the U. S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955.  During his service he was stationed at bases in the U. S. as well as serving at overseas bases in Okinawa and Guam.

Following his U. S. Air Force service, Frank started a 30+ years career with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), retiring in 1987.  During his career he was the friendly face for unhappy people attempting to complete their tax returns (before computers).

He married Jean (Cleveland) Looke of Montpelier, Vermont, in 1960.  They were married for 62 years.  After living in Farmingdale, Kennebunk, and Bath for different IRS jobs, they settled in Scarborough, Maine, where they raised their sons and continued to live until his passing.

Frank always had a twinkle in his eyes.  He laughed at good jokes and bad; and loved talking sports, from local school teams to the Patriots.  For years he had a beautiful garden which never quite measured up to his critical eye.  He carved the initials of his grandkids into pumpkins, had the best sweet corn, and he and Jean made the world's best ketchup.  He was a favorite of the grandkids as he always had a tale to tell, and he was a tireless pitcher for any batting practice.  He loved Maine, and he never missed a chance to visit Two Lights and the Lobster Shack.

Frank is predeceased by his parents and siblings – brothers Whitman, Charles, and Robert; sisters Dorothy Looke, Mary Worster, Ruth Ann Worster, and Betty Aubrey.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; son Randall (Randy), his wife Shelly (Campbell), their daughters and sons-in-law, Brittany and David Vinson, and Brenna and Zackary Hazelton and their daughter Jenna; son Loriman, his wife Lisa (Klingler), their sons and daughter Loriman, Garrison, and Caroline; as well as loved nieces and a nephew.

No funeral services are planned for Frank.  An internment of his ashes will be held at Farmingdale Cemetery with immediate family.
