Georgia Harriet Millett of Eliot formerly of South Portland and Scarborough passed peacefully on a beautiful fall morning at the home of her daughter Rhonda and husband James Newcomer of Eliot. Georgia was born on August 21, 1926, in Paris, Maine to Herbert Scribner and Mary Cummings Scribner.
She attended schools in Paris and South Paris but attained her high school diploma from Portland Regional HS in 1977 at age 50.
Georgia was always a hard worker and held many different positions throughout her long life. As a little girl she sold cottage cheese that her mother made. She performed ironing and cleaning at the Sigma Nu house at Bowden College along with various retail jobs. After moving to Portland in the early 60s, she worked at Fairchild Semiconductor and then moved to Data General where she retired in 1990.
She enjoyed many hobbies, including sewing and quilting, Zentangle, paint by number and gardening. She loved bird watching and always had a dog or two.
Most of all she loved family and friends. She was a favorite “aunt” to many. Georgia was a long time member of Thornton Heights Methodist Church. “Be kind” was her motto and her faith was a source of strength.
She is survived by her daughter, son Kenneth Millett of Cape Coral FL, granddaughter Sharon Lunt of Greene, Me and grandson Kenneth Millett Jr of Greene, Me. 5 great grandchildren and 11 great- great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by the love of her life husband Linton of 76 years, grandson Craig Millett, sister Bertha Reny and brother Leslie Scribner.
The family would like to thank the nurses and aides from Beacon Hospice for their care and kindness during Georgia’s final days. And special thanks to her best friend Hazel Hollenbeck for always being there when she needed anything.
