Gilbert Edward Wayne Sr., "Gil" 73 a lifelong resident of Portland, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on April 27th , 2025. Gil was born on August 26, 1951 and grew up in Portland while attending Portland schools. Gil was part of the work study program with Portland High School and started his career as a baker at Calderwood Baking Company where he worked for several years. Following graduation from high school he went onto work at J.J Nissans Bakery where he retired as a foreman.

Gil valued simple pleasures in life and was passionate about motorcycle rides. He had four lifelong friends: Johnny, Stevie, Mark, and Drifter.  Gil loved playing poker for its social and competitive aspects and would travel to Las Vegas annually for March Madness. He also enjoyed visiting Atlantic City to play cards with his close friends. Recently, he cherished spending time with his great grandson.

He is predeceased by his parents, Beverly J. Beane and Marcus A. Wayne Sr.  His two sons, Gilbert Wayne Jr. and Marcus Wayne. He is survived by his daughter Tina Gorham and husband Mike; granddaughters Megan Wayne and her partner Angela DiDonato, Mary and husband Sutton Proulx and Paige Wayne; grandson Nick Wayne; great grandson Cove Proulx;  sisters Kimberly, Rosa, Pam ,Sharon, Ruth and a brother Marcus. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service on Thursday May 8th, 2025 from 10am-11 am at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd, South Portland. A private burial will follow for his immediate family.
