Gloria Twomey

July 19, 1942 - January 19, 2026

Gloria (Morrell, Libby) Twomey 83, of South Portland passed unexpectedly surrounded by the deep love of her family.  Gloria was the daughter of Glendon and Inez (Proctor) Morrell.  She graduated from South Portland High School class of 1960.  She married Gordon B. Libby and they were blessed with 3 children. After Gordon's sudden passing, Gloria married Daniel M. Twomey in 1986.  Dan came with 5 children of his own.  The new large family gathered for many happy times.

Gloria and Gordon, owned and operated Stan's Market in Redbank. In addition, she worked at Vose Smith, Mittel & Hefferan and Allen Bradley. If you were to ask her though, she would say her favorite, and most meaningful job was raising her 3 children, and supporting every endeavor they pursued.

Gloria learned early on, to problem solve from her father, who could fix or make absolutely anything under the sun, including building their house.  Gloria knew, if she couldn't find what she wanted, she would just make it herself.  She was also lucky to inherit the crafty gene from her mother.  Gloria and her creative mind, spent a lifetime sewing, knitting, ceramics, crocheting, needle point, cake decorating along with planning events, parties and weddings.  She would knit baby caps, make flower arrangements, wreaths, doll clothes and Halloween costumes.  No holiday went by without her front yard being cleverly decorated. You could see the spark of excitement when a new idea was swirling in her head. There was no project Gloria wouldn't attempt, with seemingly endless new ideas from whatever gave her inspiration. She often mentioned how much fun she would have had if Pinterest was around when she was younger. For her, no holiday was too small to celebrate with a special cake she made.  Gloria proved that every occasion can be special, if you make it special. She never went anywhere empty handed and was the funniest one in the room, Gloria brought smiles to anyone around her with a quick wink, a joke, or just kind words.  She often received compliments from random strangers.

Gloria loved children and taught them how to make May baskets, colored eggs (having a blast hiding them).  She would show them how to make crafts, read them stories, sing them a song, and just be silly to make them laugh.  Memories of a lifetime….

Gloria also enjoyed traveling, swimming, bird watching and blowing bubbles. She was happy at the symphony, watching fireworks and visiting Eastport. She loved new snow glistening on the branches and the sparkle of the rippling water on a lake.  She would see musical notes from the birds sitting on telephone lines and then sing the tune. Gloria admired the colors and fruits of all seasons, the smell of May flowers in the spring and appreciated the delicate look of Queen Ann's Lace. All simple things. She had fun on Red Hat day and Kentucky derby day.  Gloria was also a member of Moose Lodge 1310.

Gloria is predeceased by husband Gordon B. Libby and Daniel M. Twomey, sister Audrey Mclaughlin, and many friends. Sadly predeceased by her dear friends Thelma and Charleen.

Gloria is survived by many children: Scott & Janice Libby, Kimberly Libby, Jennifer Libby-Barnes & Robert Barnes (Her appreciation for Robert was immense).  In addition, Denise & Glenn Ford, Danni Twomey, Derrill & Deborah Twomey, Dwayne & Tena Twomey, David & Lori Twomey, Grand children Justin Elliott, Travis Elliott, Nicole Fletcher, Libby Hines, Helena Twomey, Alexandra Twomey, Bryan Twomey, Zachary Oak, Nick Twomey, Chris Twomey, Alicia Hanssen, G.W.Ford Jr., Katie Gensheimer, Michael Phillips, Joan Thompson, Beth Grassi, Charlie Phillips, Leah Twomey, Jamie Twomey, Tristan Twomey, Nicholas Twomey, Lucas Twomey, Lily Twomey, and 19 great grandchildren.  Nieces Pam, Sue and Kathy, sister in law Judith White.  Gloria had many close friends and loved spending time with Donna, Debbie, Marlene, Pearl, & June.

Gloria was deeply in love with her many pets and every other animal (including squirrels and chipmunks).

Gloria was so full of life until the very end.  She always wanted to be the best version of herself.  Most importantly, Gloria wanted nothing more than to spend time with her family and friends and just make people happy.  The emptiness she leaves behind is unmeasurable and no words can express our grief.  She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

In her honor, we invite you to drop by and celebrate her fabulous life and legacy between 1-4 p.m., on May 1, at One Spring Point Marina at the Boat House, South Portland.
