Grace Muriel Baumann Kimball

1941-2025

SCARBOROUGH--Grace Muriel Baumann Kimball,83, died peacefully after a brief illness, on March 10, 2025, at her home in Scarborough, ME.

She was born in Hackensack, NJ, on November 20, 1941, which happened to be Thanksgiving Day that year, due to a change by President Roosevelt. She was the only child of Walter J. Baumann and Marguerite (Anders) Baumann. She and her mother lived with Walter's mother - Gracie's beloved 'Gramma' Muriel - while Walter served in WWII.

Gracie attended a one-room school house in Berkshire Valley, NJ, then four different grade schools, ending at Warner Elementary School in Warner, NH.  She graduated from Warner's Simonds Free High School in 1959, and attended one year each, at Plymouth and Keene, NH Teachers' Colleges.

In 1962 she married Gary Kimball (from New London, NH), in Columbus, GA, where Gary was serving in the United States Army. A year later they welcomed their daughter, Dawn Elizabeth, at Martins Army Hospital, in Fort Benning, GA.

In 1964 they returned to NH and a home in Londonderry, followed by the move to ME in 1966. They settled in Cape Elizabeth in 1967 where she became a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church.  In 1984 they relocated to Scarborough, ME.

Gracie worked several bookkeeping/administrative jobs, her favorites including working with the students at USM and the residents at OceanView at Falmouth Retirement Community.  She also managed Gary's commercial rental properties, and the All-Weather Flight School & Piper Dealership that they co-owned with a friend.  She served in many positions at St. Alban's during her 58 years there.

When Gary died in September 2020, they had been married for 58 years.  Grace is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Paul Wheeler, her grandson Jonathan Wheeler, and many nieces and nephews by marriage.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 7 at 6:00 p.m., at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 885 Shore Rd., Cape Elizabeth.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Alban's Episcopal Church, Cape Elizabeth, ME; Scarborough Maine Public Library; Animal Rescue League of Greater Portland ME; or the Homeless Animal Rescue Team (HART).
