Grace M. Bryant, 83, of Buxton, passed away while surrounded by her loving family at Gosnell Hospice House on December 21, 2022. She was born in Farmington, Maine on April 2, 1939, daughter to the late Philip H. Matthews Sr and Frances (French) Matthews.
Grace was educated in North Anson, Maine graduating from Anson Academy. She then went on to start her nursing career: graduating in 1960 from the Maine Medical Center School of Nursing. After graduation she continued her career with Maine Medical Center and held many positions. A couple of her favorites were her role as Staff Nurse and Night Supervisor: which she held for the last 20 years of her career, retiring from Maine Medical Center in 2003. She loved working as a nurse and had a special admiration for the staff she worked with. Her goal was always for the best of her patients and staff.
Grace enjoyed family get togethers, knitting and shopping with her friends.
Grace is survived by her son, Matthew T. Bryant and his partner Stacie Plummer of Buxton, Maine; her stepchildren, Michael R. Bryant Sr and wife Cherie of Redmond, Oregon, Pamela Flanders and husband Eben of Lincolnville, Maine; her brothers, Philip H. Matthews Jr and wife Jacqueline of Belfast, Maine, and R. Thomas Matthews and wife Lillian of Winslow, Maine; several step grandchildren, Michelle, Michael, Melissa, Matthew E., Ian and Selena; step great-grandchildren, Darien, Dylan, Madeline, Michael 3 rd , Taylor, Brooklyn, Sunny and Ella; several nieces and nephews, Philip 3 rd , Kelly, Adam, Justin and Eric; 6 special great nieces and nephews, Samuel, Calvin, Philip 4 th , Ruth, Benjamin and Gavin as well as several cousins and her many friends that were very special to her.
Grace was predeceased by her husband Shirley R. (Mike) Bryant, her parents and her special granddog, "Dudley".
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Grace's memory are asked to consider The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital, Maine Medical Center, 22 Bramhall Street, Portland, Maine or to the Animal Refuge League in Westbrook, Maine.
Per Grace's wishes, her services will be private.
