Harry G. Pierson, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in Scarborough, Maine on January 29, 2024. He was 101 years young. He was the son of the late Harry G. and Helen A. (Winberg) Pierson, Sr. of Brockton, Massachusetts.

Harry was a graduate of Brockton High School and graduated from an apprentice machinist program at the Fore River Shipyard before enlisting and proudly serving in the U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II. He was recently honored with the Merchant Mariners of WWII Congressional Gold Medal for his service. He had a long career as a mechanical design engineer concentrating in the steam power, petroleum and pulp and paper industries. In his retirement years he became an inventor holding two patents. One, for a tanker conversion vessel for cleaning up large oil spills, the Sea Clean Oil Recovery Vessel (SCOR-V) and one, for an automated cat box, winning recognition at the Boston Science Museum Inventor's Convention. He published a book about his years of service in the U.S. Merchant Marine, 'U.S. Merchant Mariner's World War II Diary: A Small Window of Tens of Thousands'. Harry was a man of faith and a lifetime member of the Swedish Covenant Church. He enjoyed sailing the boat he built, "DiMar", for many years in Buzzards Bay and at 81, Harry designed and built their home with the help of his wife, Louise in Jaffrey, New Hampshire where they lived for many happy years before moving to Maine.

Harry is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Louise (Marshall) Pierson of Scarborough, Maine; his daughters, Diane Post and her husband Robert of Scarborough, Maine and Rebecca Pierson of Reading, Massachusetts, and his daughter-in-law, Robin (Corriea) Pierson Keating of Cataumet, Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Max Post of Denver, Colorado, Zachary Petrin, Jacob Petrin and Meghan Petrin of Reading, Massachusetts; and his sister, Lois Abromowich of South Portland, Maine. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth (Nelson) Pierson of Brockton, Massachusetts and his son, Mark Pierson of Plymouth, Massachusetts; and his siblings Howard Pierson of Brockton, Massachusetts, Phyllis Bystrom and her husband Robert of West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, his brother, Richard "Pete" Pierson and his wife Toddy of Venice, Florida and his brother-in-law, Tony Abromowich of Englewood, Florida.

Harry will be laid to rest at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts. Memorial donations may be made in Harry's remembrance to the Salvation Army or the American Cancer Society.
