Helen M. Fogg

Helen Lucille McBrine Fogg of South Portland, wife of Steven A. Fogg, died March 1, 2026 at home in Windham, ME. She was born in Rockland, ME, a daughter of Edgar and Addie (McIntosh) McBrine.

Helen attended schools in Bath and South Portland, graduating from South Portland High School in 1959. She attended the former Gorham State Teachers College.
Helen is predeceased by her parents and sisters Nancy Doughty, Barbara Foster, Paulyne McBrine and brother Edgar B. McBrine and her mother-in-law Ruth I. Fogg.

As a young girl, Helen was involved in tap and ballet. She also was a majorette.
After the death of her mother in 1952, Helen moved to South Portland and lived with her loving Aunt Louise and Uncle Guy Shibles. Aunt Louise was her mother's sister. Aunt Louise taught Helen to cook, bake, clean, do laundry, and keep a tidy house.

Helen credited Aunt Louise's influence in making her the homemaker she became. Her baking skills made her a hit with the neighborhood kids. The yard was always full of kids waiting for Mrs. Fogg to bring out tasty homemade treats and Kool-aid or Tang.

Over the years Helen worked for McDonald's, Zayre's department store, Casco Bank, and as a lunch aid at the children's school. She did parent volunteer work at Sawyer Elementary school and Skillin school when her children attended those schools.

Helen continued her mothering with her grandsons, Jason and John. She would often pick them up from daycare and make them a nice homemade meal. Occasionally, the wore her down and she would get them McDonald's on the way home.

When Steve retired, they loved traveling. They went to UT, TX, NJ, MN, and VA to visit with the David Fogg family.

They visited the Tim Fogg family in MA and Gorham, ME. Helen's regret was that she never got to visit NV.

They visited Sandy in IN, too.

Since their first trip to Disney World in 1980, they have been life long Disney fans. Being kids at heart, they loved riding the rides and kept going without their children. When they started spending more time in FL, they also spent more and more time at Disney. Because Steve worked at Disney and got free passes, she loved being able to go the parks more frequently. Once Steve fully retired they became passholders. This way if they wanted to go for an hour to see a concert, they could. If they wanted to return later in the day for the fireworks, they could. It was hard for her to leave the greater Disney area but love helped her do hard things.

Helen had her first stroke at 57. Doctors informed Steve that she had a 5 year life expectancy. Her sons, David and Tim gave her a blessing and that night she had a dream in which she walked to the window at rehab. The next morning she told her nurse she was ready to learn to walk. Helen's positive attitude during her time at rehab at Brighton Medical Center, helped her regain her speech and ability to walk.

Helen lived an additional 23 years in which she: helped her husband out in his accounting business. They also spent many years as snowbirds. They would pack up the car a drive to Kissimmee. She loved going to the parks where her sweet Steve would push her in her wheelchair wherever she wanted to go, even the souvenir shops! She loved her "Tink" finds and her Disney decor in the home they lived in for many years in Kissimmee. Her family is so grateful to have been blessed with 23 bonus years with Helen, Mum, Gramma.

In May, 2024, they moved back to Maine to be near family and friends. Recently, they moved into their daughter, Sandy, and son-in-law, John's home in Windham.

Helen loved to shop for gifts for others. She always managed to find the perfect gift for each individual. She would scour through newspapers and magazines for articles and comics, clip them out, and send them to the people she thought would appreciate them. Just a few weeks ago, she came across an article that her friend Ellen would appreciate. She made sure Steve mailed it to Ellen.

She will be missed by so many family and friends who always felt welcomed by her.

Besides her husband of almost 64 years, she is survived by her daughter Sandra (John) Chambers of Windham, ME; 2 sons David (Cynthia) Fogg of Pittsburgh, PA and Timothy (Tammy) Fogg of Henderson, NV. She also leaves 9 grandchildren Jason (Kayceril) Chambers and John (Bethany) Chambers III of ME; Ruth (Tommy) Beach of PA, David (Natasha) Fogg Jr of TX, Benjamin Fogg of UT, and Rachel Fogg of PA; Brittney Fogg, William (Azeria), and Gabrielle (Aaron) Foley of NV and 12 great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
