South Portland, ME - Helen Bryant Morgan passed away on March 25th at the age of 92. She was born on May 3, 1930 in Hollis, ME. She was raised in Stow, Maine on the family farm with her parents, Irving and Ruth (Gilman) Bryant.

She attended a one room school house as a child at Stow Corner School and graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1948. She was a member of the local 4H club and the National Honor Society. She went on to receive a degree from Becker Junior College in Worcester, MA. As a young girl she worked in a corn shop in North Fryeburg. She later enjoyed working summers at her Aunt's tea room The Jolly Ginger Snap in Fryeburg.

After Becker she worked for the IRS in Augusta until she started her family with Alton.

She married Alton E. Morgan on September 14, 1957. They settled in South Portland where she was a loving Mom and caregiver to their 4 children. As the children grew older, she would work holiday time at various department stores and enjoyed selling Tupperware for many years. She volunteered at Sawyer School, the local Girl Scout troop, and worked many years at the voting polls in South Portland.

She always loved her beloved Stow area and the mountains and spent much time with her children visiting relatives and friends whenever she could, sharing the amazing countryside she grew up in. She and her husband spent many summers camping with their children and countless years attending the Fryeburg Fair.

Her children fondly remember the years of Sunday dinners together and the fine art of making homemade ice cream. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and all things homemade. She loved gardening, canning and making jams and relishes. She had tons of cookbooks and recipes and enjoyed baking and cooking new things. Her molasses cookies were top notch.

As her children grew and grandchildren arrived, it was many years of gatherings and always staying on top of what everyone was up to. It seems she was always busy and never sat still except for watching Jeopardy or Saturday evenings with Lawrence Welk and baked beans, of course, and the occasional evening drive for a milk shake. She and AI enjoyed traveling whether it be out west to Arizona or up the coast on Sunday drives or Vermont in the fall when leaves are turning. She leaves her children with an abundance of memories and family traditions.

She is pre-deceased by her husband of 64 years, Alton E. Morgan. She is survived by her children, Stephen Morgan and wife Debbie, children John and wife Elisha and their daughters Eleanor and Ashley; Sammy Strumph and wife Chelsea and their children Gwyneth and Rhett, Benjamin and fiancé Mikayla and her son Ollie; Timothy Morgan and partner Nancy, and his son Mason and his daughter Ava; Judy (Morgan) Bogdanovich and her husband Peter, children Luke and his wife Nicole, Heidi and her fiancé Matt; Kathleen (Morgan) Fecteau and her husband Brian and their children Zachery and Nicholas;
Two nephews Lawrence Smith and his wife Dorothy and David Smith and his wife Ann and their families.

We would like the thank the wonderful staff at Scarborough Terrace for their wonderful care over the past few weeks.

A Memorial service will be held at Hobbs Funeral home in South Portland on May 3rd at 11 am. There will be no visiting hours. A private graveside service will be held after the Memorial service. ln lieu of flowers donations to the South Portland Boys and Girls Club is welcomed.
