Obituary

Hiromi Dolliver, 86 passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 9, 2024. Hiromi was born as Evelyn Gail in 1937 in Germany to Albert and Irene Gail. While Albert was in the United States, and less than two months after her birth, she, her Mom, and brother Klaus escaped Germany and came to the United States.

Hiromi grew up in the United States during a time of anti-German sentiment. Albert was an aeronautical engineer and moved the family around the US considerably while she was a young adult. This also happened with her first husband, Tom Webster. They were married in 1956 and had three children, Stuart, Steven, and Nancy. As a family they resided in New Jersey, Rochester NY area, DesMoines, IA, before eventually moving to Cape Elizabeth in 1972. Hiromi remained in Maine from then until now. After she married her second husband, Daniel Dolliver in 1978, Hiromi and Dan moved to Gray, and then to Gorham for awhile, before coming to her final residence of South Portland where she had been for over 30 years.

Hiromi worked as an independent Paralegal for 20 years, which she enjoyed. She spent a year-and-a-half in Antelope, OR with her spiritual Guru, Bagwan Shree Rajneesh, which was a time of great personal growth, positive change, and how Evelyn became Hiromi. Afterwards, she worked for the Town of Cape Elizabeth Assessment Codes and Planning Office before retiring in 2005. Her relationship with the town continued as the Planning Board secretary until recently and with the Comprehensive Planning Committee. She was very well liked.

Hiromi lived with breast cancer for nearly 25 years before succumbing. The experience taught her some very important life lessons and shaped her in many ways. She came to view the cancer in terms of living with it versus a battle.

Hiromi was predeceased by her brother, Klaus Gail, her daughter, Nancy Webster, and her stepdaughter, Karen Dolliver. Hiromi is survived by her husband, Daniel Dolliver of South Portland; her son, Stuart Webster and wife Leslie of Covington, KY; her son Steve Webster and wife Elaine DeMartin-Webster of Eugene, OR. She is also survived by her stepdaughter Susan Dolliver of South Portland, stepdaughter Carol Friberg and her husband Jay o Milbridge, and stepson Dan Dolliver, Jr. and wife Jessica of South Portland, and honorary granddaughter Emeline Longnecker of Bolder, CO. Hiromi is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Lauren, Jenna and Rachel Webster, Jacob and Megan McGarvey, Jackson, Ava and William Dolliver.

Hiromi was certainly beloved by all of us.
