James C. Sawyer, 58, of Dixfield passed away peacefully on January 5, 2023. Born to James and Gloria (Greenlaw) Sawyer, James was the oldest of 5 children.

Jim spent the majority of his life in South Portland.  A huge fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. If there was a game on he was sure to be watching. An avid chess player, James loved to participate in tournaments and would frequently talk about his games with friend Tom Echaure. Jim also enjoyed classic rock and following the stock market, but what he enjoyed most in life was his nieces and nephews. There was never a child who wasn't drawn to Jim. I find it only fitting that his nieces and nephews share their best memories of their beloved Uncle Jim.

Niece Christina remembers watching tv with Uncle Jim and how he knew every character's name and he would be so excited when she would come to visit . Niece Nicole remembers Uncle Jim's cooking of mac and cheese, always overcooking the noodles and adding way more butter than the box called for. A tradition she now carries on with her own children. Nephew Robert remembers how he used to climb all over Jim, referring to him as the human jungle "Jim". Nephew Joshua loved all the basketball games played with Uncle Jim. Niece Alexandria loved spending hours with Uncle Jim playing monopoly. As Alexandria got older she would always call and talk about her and Uncle Jim's favorite TV shows. Nephew Payton loved following the stock exchange with Uncle Jim and comparing notes on their favorite tv show "Stranger Things". Uncle Jim also loved his time he was able to spend with niece Malaya.

James was preceded in death by his Father (James), Maternal grandparents Stephen and Shirley Greenlaw and Paternal grandparents James and Astrid Sawyer.

James is survived by his mother Gloria and step father Stuart of Dixfield.  Brothers Dana (Brigid) and Felipe (Ellen), along with sisters Tonya (Bobby) and Tanya (Mike).  4 nieces, 3 nephews, 6 great nieces and 2 great nephews.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses, doctors and staff in the ICU at CMMC in Lewiston. The family would also like to extend their love and gratitude to Hobbs funeral home for going above and beyond in taking exceptional care of Jim.
