Jane Rowell, age 98, of Scarborough, ME, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026, at her home. 

She was born June 13, 1928, in Shoreham, VT, the daughter of Harry and Ethel Witherell. Jane graduated from Spaulding High School in Rochester, NH, in 1947, and went on to earn her nursing degree from the Faulkner Hospital School of Nursing in Boston in 1950. Early that same year, she married her high school sweetheart, Ken Rowell. Together, they lived in New Jersey, New Hampshire, and Ohio before moving to Maine, first residing in Cape Elizabeth for 13 years before settling in Scarborough in 1970. 

Jane worked as a Registered Nurse and later as a bookkeeper for Harris Hinckley, M.D., the Montalvo Corporation, and Oak Hill Trustworthy Hardware. Looking to stay connected to the medical field, Jane also generously volunteered her time at Maine Medical Center. She had a passion for music, refinishing furniture, and gardening, taking immense pride in her beautiful gardens. She especially loved sailing the coast of Maine with Ken, as well as camping and traveling. In her later years, Jane travelled to Europe, China, and Egypt. 

Jane is survived by her three children: David Rowell and his wife Beth Krommes of Peterborough, NH; Alan Rowell of Hollis, ME; and Peter Rowell and his wife Kellie of Lincoln, NH. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Ken, in 2000; her daughter, Susan, in 1962; and her daughter-in-law, Karen Rowell, in 1999. Her legacy lives on through her seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. 

A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA or the Maine Cancer Foundation in Falmouth, ME.
