Jill Christine Coles was welcomed home to be with Jesus on August 31st, 2022.  She passed away peacefully at home, the day after her 77th birthday. She was born in Reading, England to the late Charlie and Cissy Rose.  Jill married Peter in September 1965 and raised her family in  Reading and later Llantwit Major (Wales, U.K.).  She was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church which became 'home' for many years; she developed bonds and friendships that she always treasured.  After a more recent move to Maine she joined a new church family here in South Portland.

Jill is remembered for her love of family, her caring heart and creativity. Her pride in her children and grandchildren was palpable. Jill's love and care for others extended beyond those in her direct family, and her gentleness and compassion touched many over the years who considered her to be one of their own. She was a talented seamstress, cook, knitter and had a keen eye for design and fashion.  She was never too busy to make a cake or a meal for someone in need,  family or guests arriving for a visit.  She loved nothing more than a full house and many mouths to feed.

Jill will be missed by all who knew her, and is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years,  Peter Coles.  She is also survived by two of her three children Paul Coles and his wife Kristina, Julie Nickerson and her husband Jere, as well as her 9 grandchildren; Tom, Abi, Lucy, Gabriel, Amelia, Dan, Rebekah, Jack and Ella; great grandson Riley; and siblings Pam, Carol and Charlie.  She was predeceased by her son, Gary Coles.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude for the tremendous care and attention Jill received from Dr.Evans and his team at New England Cancer Specialists;  The team at Gosnell Memorial Hospice and the at-home team from Hospice of Southern Maine.

A 'Celebration of Life' will be held at South Portland Church of the Nazarene on Tuesday, September 6 at 3:30pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Jill's name to: Hospice of Southern Maine, 390 US Rte One, Scarborough, ME 04074
