John Edgar "Jack" Crockett, age 76, passed away in the presence of his loving family at Maine Medical Center on July 13, 2022 after a brief and unexpected battle with cancer.

Jack was born in Portland, Maine on February 7, 1946. He was the son of John C.F. Crockett and Virginia L. Dougherty Crockett. He grew up in Portland with his younger brother Michael, and graduated from Deering High School in 1964. After attending Gorham State Teacher's College, Jack raised his family in his favorite town of South Portland, Maine.

Jack worked for the South Portland Housing Authority from 1984 to 1993, and was the Chief Engineer at the Holiday Inn/Fireside Inn in Portland from 1993 until he retired in 2020.

Jack was known for his smile, and his kind, gentle treatment of others. He was an important part of his community in many ways. Jack served for more than 20 years in multiple giving roles for St. John's Parish in South Portland and the Diocese of Portland. He was the co-chairman of the very first Project Graduation at South Portland High School. He was a beloved Coach and super-volunteer for South Portland American Little League for 23 years. He helped bring high school sports to local access TV as one of the voices of South Portland HS basketball and football in the 80's and 90's.

As a young man, Jack enjoyed going to the Friday night fights with his father. He later shared that love by bringing his sons and grandsons to the Expo for fight nights. Jack was an avid bowler, and loved to play pool. He was a big fan of old movies, and was a beautiful poet. He spent many of his recent years passionately researching and documenting his family ancestry. You could always find Jack in the stands with friends and family during high school basketball tournament time. It was his favorite time of year.

Jack's favorite pastime, though, was being a Dad and a Grandpa. He looked forward to going to ALL of the sports and events his children and grandchildren participated in. He was their biggest fan, and they all loved seeing him in the stands smiling and cheering.

Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Lisa Horne Crockett. His mother, Virginia L. Dougherty Crockett,
and his father, John C.F. Crockett.

Jack is survived by his daughter Cassandra Peavey of South Portland; his sons Brian Crockett and his wife Martha of Casco, Robert Crockett and his wife Rene of Windham, and Michael Crockett and his wife Rosann of Madera, California. Grandchildren: Brittany, Jacob, Katelynn, Searrah, Robbie, Christina and her husband Matthew, Daniel, Nadia, Faith, Nevaeh, Kai, Avery, Lyndsy, and Peyton. Great grandchildren: Kennedeigh, Theo, and Maddie. Mother of his children, Patricia A. Crockett of South Portland. Brother, Michael E. Crockett of Searsport and his wife Lisa.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 20th from 4:00-7:00pm at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road in South Portland. There will also be a service at 12:00pm on Thursday, July 21st at Hobbs Funeral Home.
