John T. Goodwin, 79, passed away September 4, 2026, at Mercy Hospital.
John was born in Portland, Maine, October 5, 1946, the son of William
L. Goodwin Sr. and Lois E. Goodwin. He graduated from Portland High
School, Class of 1964. Soon after graduation, he joined the U.S. Air
Force, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. His final deployment in
June of 1968 was Bien Hoa Air Base, Republic of South Viet Nam.

Upon receiving his Honorable Discharge, he returned to Portland,
Maine, and graduated with an associate's degree in business from the
University of Southern Maine. He held jobs in Purchasing and Sales
Management at the Portland Company, Chapman Corp. and Electro-Static
Technology. He retired from Illinois Tool Works in 2009.

John was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Gretchen E. Anderson;
and siblings Richard Harris Sr., B. Irene Harris, William L. Goodwin
Jr., Elizabeth Goodwin Wilson, Robert C. Goodwin, Margaret R. Goodwin,
Estelle Goodwin Backus and Alice M. Goodwin. He is survived by his
son, Andrew L. Goodwin, and his partner, Shirley A. Smith Blodgett.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be a private graveside
service with military honors.
