John "Bruce" Gutgsell

John "Bruce" Gutgsell, 77, of South Portland, Maine, passed away on March 28, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on February 23, 1949, in Portland, Maine, Bruce grew up on Tate Street with his three brothers. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, earning many commendations for his service. After returning home, he became an adored custodian for many years, known for his kindness, dedication, and the genuine care he showed to everyone he met.

Bruce was married for 49 years to his beloved wife, Norma, and was a devoted father to their four children. He had a great sense of humor and was an avid puzzle master, always having a puzzle in progress. He found great joy in spending time with family and friends, and nothing meant more to him than watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and being part of their lives.

He will be remembered for his love, loyalty, quiet strength, and the laughter he brought to those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
