Obituary

John Joseph Maguire, 83, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, in Portland, Maine.

John was born on September 15, 1942, in Woburn, Massachusetts and was raised in Billerica, Massachusetts. He went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, followed by a Master of Business Administration, building a strong foundation for a successful and respected career.

John worked as a Project Manager for GTE and later for General Dynamics, where he was known for his dedication, professionalism, and sharp intellect.

In 1976, John married the love of his life, Florence Elizabeth Wilton. Together they built a life centered on family, love, and shared experiences. He was a devoted husband, a proud father to Andrew and Catherine, and a cherished grandfather to his granddaughter, Nola, who brought him immense joy.

John found great happiness in the simple and meaningful moments of life—spending time with his wife in Scarborough, Maine, watching his granddaughter grow, enjoying the companionship of his beloved grand dogs, and participating in sport shooting at the Scarborough Rod and Gun Club. He and Florence were also longtime participants in their local garden club, where they shared a love of gardening and community, remaining involved with fellow members throughout the years.

In retirement, John and Florence enjoyed traveling together, creating lasting memories. They took a special trip to Alaska shortly after retiring, and later traveled to Ireland to celebrate their son Andrew's wedding to his wife, Jennifer—moments that brought them great joy and pride.

He will be remembered as a caring, intelligent, and gentle soul whose quiet strength and kindness touched everyone who knew him.
