SCARBOROUGH - John Thomas peacefully passed August 9, 2023 at the age of 86.  He was the son of Annie Mae and John Jewel Thomas.  He was born in Wellington, Texas.  He grew up on a farm in Hub - a small farming community between Friona and Muleshoe Texas.  He graduated from Friona High School which is where he began his long love of playing tennis.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Judy A. Thomas, of Scarborough Maine.  His son, John Darrell Thomas and his husband, Joey Dominguez, in California, and daughter, Clista Denise Thomas in Texas.

He was the proud grandfather of John-Michael and Chloe Thomas, Jacob Lee Stuart and Reychil Thomas, and Clista Delaney Thomas.  Additionally, he is survived by great-granddaughter, Aurora Ann Thomas.

Survivors include his brother, Bill Don Thomas, and brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws: Melinda Thomas, Gene and Alice Sulek, Bob and Nancy Sulek.  He had many nieces and nephews that were much loved by him.  He will be missed by many friends throughout New England.

He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Eva Nell Dale.

John graduated from the University of Texas in Arlington TX.  He had a long illustrious career at Texas Instruments, Fairchild Semiconductor and LL Bean.  John Thomas was known in the community for his love of golf, bowling, skiing, traveling but most of all his passion for tennis!  He led numerous teams to national championships.  He coached local high school teams and organized tennis tournaments throughout Maine.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that you donate to a charity of your choice or to the Parkinson's Foundation (www.parkinson.org) in his name.

The family will receive visitors in his honor at Hobbs Funeral Home in Scarborough, Maine between 4-7 p.m. on Monday August 14th.  Interment will be at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 15th.
