Scarborough - John Raymond Young was born February 8, 1936 to Wallace Floyd and Francis (Moquin) Young in Hingham, Massachusetts passed away June 1,  2023 in Scarborough, Maine.  He was predeceased by his parents (1981 and 1987), sister Mary Hauser (1997), and brother Wally Young (2021).

John was a longtime resident of Hingham until 2014.  He was well known around town as an avid bike rider and an amazing mechanic, which was his livelihood.  He ran his business right out of his garage which he added on an upper level.  He worked on cars on the lower level and wood working on the second level, which he was also very talented in.  His home was right outside one of his favorite spots in Hingham, Wompatuck State Park.  He loved picking up bikes, fixing them, and tuning them up.  If anyone needed a bike, he always had one to give away.  He loved to share his love for bike riding with others.

He had many wonderful friends that he loved to sail and bike with.  He had a Boston Whaler for many years, and many friends and family had the pleasure of enjoying a day out on the ocean with him.  He was well known for always wearing his Greek captain's hat which gained him the nickname "Captain" among his friends.

He graduated from Hingham High School in 1954 and served in the Army National Guard for 3 years.

Although John never attended college, he had an engineering mind.  As a young teenager he took an engine apart and put it back together again perfectly.  Before working on his own out of his home, he worked with his brother at Crow Point Service for a time and then for a local family, the Quinn's, at their bike shop and auto shop.

John loved animals and being out in nature which made the location of his home the perfect place for him.  He loved having deer, rabbits, squirrels and any other kind of wildlife wander through his yard.

Although John never had any children, he had many nieces and nephews whom he loved, and they love him. His sense of humor and quick wit will be missed.
