SCARBOROUGH - Jonathan S. Peirce, 86, of Scarborough passed away on September 17, 2026, after a long struggle with dementia.

He was raised in Lexington, MA, and Scarborough Beach, ME, a son of David L. and Mollie Brown Peirce. Jonathan graduated from Lexington High School, Dean Junior College, and Suffolk University.

He married Deborah Norris of Cambridge MA and New Ipswich NH in 1967. Initially they made their home in Wayland, MA, having two sons there. In 1976, the family moved to Scarborough Beach year-round. Jonathan proudly sold fine office furniture in Maine for 22 years. He was active in civic organizations and the Scarborough Library.

In retirement, Jonathan became an actor and talent in advertisements. He was most proud of his work for the Amtrak Downeaster.

He is survived by his sons, Benjamin (Michelle Willits) of Oregon, WI and Nathaniel (Peg Loughran) of Peaks Island, ME. Deborah, his wife of nearly 58 years, predeceased him in 2025.

Also surviving are six grandchildren: Kaitlyn Goss-Peirce, Rhett (Deanna) Cunningham, Sabine Peirce, Lillian Goss-Peirce, Magnolia Peirce, and Pauline Peirce, as well as his beloved sisters in law, Nancy (Stan) Marsden and Biffie Gallant.

Jonathan explicitly asked that we, his family, also note as survivors “numerous friends all of whom were very important to him.” As a very gregarious person, we suspect he simply could not name all of you.

Jonathan requested that there be no funeral, although a private celebration will be held on Scarborough Beach on a future date.

The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to the fine people at Scarborough Terrace and Compassus Hospice of Maine. The comfort you provided to Jonathan, and to us as his family, is genuinely appreciated.
