Judith A. (Scribner) Conley passed unexpectedly on August 24, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Judie was born and raised in Portland. Born on June 7, 1941 to Getrude and Sherman Scribner. She was a graduate of Deering High School and Westbrook Junior College.

After college she worked for Baker Adams accounting firm where she met her future husband, Phil Conley. Phil and Judie were married on June 12, 1965 and later settled in Cape Elizabeth. It was in Cape where she raised her four boys, Mike, Pete, Jeff and Phil Jr. She was a mainstay at all Cape sporting events and worked in the High School as an administrative assistant so she could keep an eye on them.

Judie was an avid traveler and loved to explore new places. She would diligently research and plan trips all over the world. They were off the beaten path and full of adventure. But even with all the exotic trips, Judie was a true Mainer. She thought everything from Maine was the best. Coming home to her family and friends was the most important part of any trip.

For the last 25 years, Judie had been spending her winters in Florida in the Ft. Meyers/Venice areas. She flourished in the winter sunshine.

But for Judie, her happy place was the family camp on Hancock Pond. This was where her true happiness lay. It is the place where her family has gathered for 75 years. During the summer, from all over the country, Judie's family and friends would descend upon camp to smile, laugh, play cards (our honored game of Phase 10), waterski and have a drink with the Matriarch of the Conley/Scribner family.  She had a way of always making everyone feel welcome as if they were part of her family.

Judie was preceded in death by her husband Phil and her parents Sherman and Gertrude. She is survived by her brother Peter and sister-in-law Martha; her four sons, Mike, Peter, Jeff and Phil, and her daughters-in-law, Ame, Jenn and Nicole; grandchildren, Willem, Ethan, Alexandra, Aidan, Jackson, Broder, Seth, Katie and Grace; nephew, Matt and nieces, Lauren and Shona.

She is also survived by Dominic, all his children and grandchildren and extended family. To all his family, thank you for making Judie feel welcome and for becoming part of her life, she always spoke highly of all your family.

Services will be through Hobbs Funeral Home in South Portland. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 27th from 4-6 p.m. Services will be held at Hobbs on Tuesday, August 29th at 10 a.m., with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Cape Elizabeth.
